Leave types

Leave types define the different categories of time off available to your employees. Each type can have specific rules and policies.

Default leave types

Wibby provides a default leave type to get you started quickly. You can customize this and add more types as needed.

Creating leave types

  1. Go to Settings → Leave Types
  2. Click Add Leave Type
  3. Configure the leave type:
    • Name: Type of leave (e.g., "Annual Leave", "Sick Leave")
    • Description: Additional details about this leave type
    • Color: Visual identifier in the calendar
    • Icon: Symbol to represent this leave type
  4. Click Save

Common leave types

Annual Leave

  • Paid time off for vacation
  • Usually accrues over time
  • May have carry-over rules

Sick Leave

  • Time off for illness or medical appointments
  • May require documentation
  • Often has different accrual rules

Personal Leave

  • Unpaid time off for personal reasons
  • May have approval requirements
  • Usually doesn't accrue

Maternity/Paternity Leave

  • Time off for new parents
  • Often has specific legal requirements
  • May be partially or fully paid

Bereavement Leave

  • Time off for family deaths
  • Usually has specific duration limits
  • May require documentation

Leave type settings

Each leave type can be configured with:

  • Accrual method: How leave is earned
  • Maximum balance: Cap on accumulated leave
  • Carry-over rules: How unused leave transfers to next year
  • Approval requirements: Who can approve this type
  • Documentation requirements: What proof is needed
  • Notice requirements: How far in advance to request

Managing leave types

Editing leave types

  1. Go to Settings → Leave Types
  2. Click the menu next to a leave type
  3. Select Edit
  4. Make your changes
  5. Click Save

Deactivating leave types

  • Deactivated types won't appear in new requests
  • Existing requests remain valid
  • Can be reactivated later if needed

Best practices

  • Keep leave type names clear and consistent
  • Use colors and icons to make types easily identifiable
  • Set up accrual rules that match your company policy
  • Consider legal requirements for different leave types
  • Regularly review and update leave types as policies change

Policy integration

Leave types work with policies to define:

  • How much leave employees get
  • When they can take it
  • Who can approve it
  • What documentation is required

Each policy can have different rules for the same leave type, allowing flexibility across departments or locations.
