How do I set up carry-over leaves?
Carry-over allows employees to transfer unused leave from one year to the next.
Steps
Go to Settings → Policies
- Select the policy you want to configure
- Click View to open policy details
Edit the leave type
- Find the leave type you want to set up carry-over for
- Click Edit next to the leave type
Enable carry-over
- Find the Carry-over section
- Toggle Enable Carry-over to ON
Set carry-over rules
- Maximum carry-over days: Limit on how many days can be carried over
- Example: Up to 5 days can be carried over
- Expiry period: When carried-over leave expires
- Example: Must be used within 3 months of new year
- Use before new leave: Require using old leave before new allowance
- Maximum carry-over days: Limit on how many days can be carried over
Configure carry-over timing
- Automatic: Carry-over happens automatically at year end
- Manual review: Requires approval before carry-over
Set expiry rules (optional)
- Expiry date: When carried-over leave expires
- Forfeit unused: What happens to expired leave
Save changes
- Click Save to apply carry-over settings
Common carry-over scenarios
Unlimited carry-over
- All unused days carry over
- No expiry date
- Use anytime
Limited carry-over
- Up to 5 days can carry over
- Must be used within 6 months
- Remaining days are forfeited
No carry-over
- All unused days are forfeited
- Fresh allowance each year
- Encourages annual usage
Tips
- Set reasonable limits to prevent excessive accumulation
- Consider expiry periods to encourage timely usage
- Communicate carry-over rules clearly to employees
