How Do I Set a User's Start Date and/or End Date?
Start and end dates are important for leave accrual calculations and reporting.
Setting start date
During user creation
- Go to People → Add Employee
- In Job Information section
- Find Start Date field
- Select the employment start date
- Complete remaining steps and save
For existing users
Go to People → Employees
- Find the user
- Click on their name
Edit job information
- Click Edit in Job Information section
- Or ⋮ menu → Edit Employee
Update start date
- Find Start Date field
- Select or enter the correct date
- This affects leave accrual calculations
Save changes
- Click Save
- Leave balance may recalculate based on new date
Setting end date
Go to People → Employees
- Find the user
- Click on their name
Edit job information
- Click Edit in Job Information section
Set end date
- Find End Date field
- Select the employment end date
- Or set status to Inactive
Save changes
- Click Save
- User access may be restricted after end date

Start date
- Leave accrual: Determines when leave starts earning
- Pro-rating: Affects first year leave allowance
- Reports: Used in tenure calculations
- Eligibility: May affect policy eligibility
End date
- Access: User may lose access after end date
- Status: Automatically sets user to inactive
- Reporting: Used in historical reports
- Data: User data is preserved for reporting

- Use actual hire date, not onboarding date
- Set end dates when employees leave
