What is a leave allowance?

A leave allowance is the total number of days an employee is entitled to take for a specific leave type within a given period (usually a year).

Key points

  • Annual entitlement: The total days allocated to an employee for a leave type
  • Policy-specific: Each leave policy can have different allowances for the same leave type
  • Accrual-based: Leave can be earned over time (monthly, quarterly, etc.)
  • Balance tracking: Wibby tracks how much leave has been used and how much remains

How it works

  1. Set in policy: Leave allowances are configured in your leave policies
  2. Assigned to employees: Employees receive allowances based on their assigned policy
  3. Tracked automatically: Wibby tracks usage and remaining balance
  4. Updated in real-time: Balance updates as leave is requested and approved

Example

If an employee has a 20-day annual leave allowance:

  • They can request up to 20 days of annual leave per year
  • The balance decreases as leave is approved
  • Unused days may carry over to the next year (if configured)
